Getting started
LogAgent runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. A guided onboarding walks you through setup the first time you launch it — pick a Quick setup with sensible defaults, or a Full setup to tune everything.
Quick start
- Install — download from logagent.app, run the installer and launch.
- Grant permissions — accessibility/screen access for window tracking, and optionally the camera for health monitoring.
- Tracking starts — LogAgent begins recording your activity locally right away.
- Set up categories — assign productivity buckets to the apps you use.
- Review your day — open Day Review each evening to approve work-log segments.
Setup also covers
- A license key, or a free trial tied to your Hardware ID.
- An optional global show/hide shortcut and autostart.
- Notification and camera permissions.
- Accepting the Terms and Privacy Policy.
How tracking works
LogAgent records the signals it needs to explain your day and classifies them automatically — all on your device.
Capture methods
- Window tracking — active app, window title and process, sampled continuously.
- Browser activity — domains and page titles via the ActivityWatch web integration.
- Input activity — keystrokes, clicks, movement and scroll counted as numbers for activity metrics; the keys themselves are never logged.
- AFK detection — idle is marked after ~90 seconds with no input; the camera can detect that you've left earlier.
Productivity buckets
| Bucket | Score | Typical apps |
|---|---|---|
| Productive | ≥ 70% | IDEs, design tools, work apps |
| Neutral | 40–70% | Browsers, file managers, system tools |
| Distracting | < 40% | Social media, games, entertainment |
Auto-attribution
- IDE project path — repo/workspace name from VS Code or JetBrains.
- Window-title patterns — rules like "JIRA-*" → Project X.
- Domain rules — github.com/org/repo → a specific project.
- Temporal carry-over — context follows you from a productive app through chat for a 10-minute window.
Projects, tasks & billing
Track time by project and task, assign clients, set hourly rates and generate invoices.
Project management
- Create projects — name, client, hourly rate, currency and a billable toggle.
- Tasks — break projects into tasks with estimated hours.
- Attribution rules — match apps, domains and window titles to auto-assign time.
- Suggestions — new projects are detected from your IDE activity.
Billing & invoicing
- Work-log segments — auto-generated from activity and approved in Day Review.
- Time rounding — configurable 15- or 30-minute rounding.
- Invoices — generated from approved segments with line items.
- Export — CSV export for external accounting.
Health & fatigue
A fatigue score from 0–100 updates every few seconds and drives smart breaks.
| State | Range | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Healthy | ≤ 50 | Comfortable working zone |
| Warning | 50–80 | Fatigue building — ease up soon |
| Critical | > 80 | Take a real break now |
The score blends 14 weighted signals — PERCLOS, neck angle, eye fatigue, blink scarcity, switch rate, time on task, productivity, stress (BPM), activity level and more.
Camera health features
- Posture — neck angle and shoulder tilt via face mesh.
- Eye strain — blink rate, PERCLOS and micro-sleeps.
- Stress — heart rate via rPPG (remote photoplethysmography).
- Presence — knows when you leave the desk.
- All local — MediaPipe runs in-browser; no video leaves the device.
Smart breaks
Breaks are scheduled by signals, not a blind timer.
- Micro-breaks — a few seconds, frequently, for eyes and hands (20-20-20).
- Short breaks — 5–10 minutes every 45–60 minutes to stretch and move.
- Long breaks — longer rests across the day.
Smart behavior
- Fatigue-driven — breaks trigger earlier when the fatigue score is high.
- AFK-aware — timers pause while you're away; no nagging during AFK.
- Snooze per type — "Don't show today" suppresses only that one reminder.
- Effectiveness — productivity before vs after a break is measured.
Focus & Shield
Active Focus blocks distractions and tracks focused work time.
Active focus
- Start a session — pick duration, task name and focus apps.
- App whitelist — only allowed apps stay open; others are minimized.
- Floating widget — an always-on-top timer with remaining time.
- Violations — switching to a non-focus app is logged.
- Pomodoro — 25/5 work-rest cycles with auto-breaks.
Deep work & Shield
- Strict mode — aggressive minimization of non-whitelisted apps.
- Shield rules — block specific apps or domains by pattern.
- Schedules — rules can activate on chosen days and hours.
- Daily limits — allow X minutes, then block for the day.
Analytics & insights
Deep analysis of your work patterns — heatmaps, behavioral profiling and correlations.
Dashboard widgets
- Productivity & wellness — productivity and fatigue by hour, with break markers and golden hours.
- Plan vs fact — planned sessions against actual tracked time.
- Weekly digest — a 7-day summary with export.
- Smart scheduling — recommendations based on golden hours and fatigue.
Correlation insights
- "Breaks boosted productivity by ~18% on average."
- "When fatigue is over 70%, productivity drops by ~32%."
- "Good posture correlates with higher productivity."
Privacy & security
All data stays on your device; privacy is a core design principle, not an afterthought.
What we track
- App names and window titles — for categorization, not content.
- Domains — for web-activity classification.
- Input counts — keystrokes and clicks as numbers only.
- Camera metrics — posture angles and blink rate; video never leaves the device.
What we don't track
- Screenshots or screen recordings
- Keystroke content (only counts)
- File contents or clipboard data
- Camera video or photos
- Passwords, forms or messages
Storage
- 100% local — a SQLite database on your machine.
- No cloud by default — optional end-to-end encrypted sync only.
- Auto-cleanup — raw events pruned after 90 days; aggregates kept.
- Export anytime — CSV/JSON export of all your data.
More on privacy
The Privacy page covers the architecture, and the Privacy Policy covers your legal rights.
Keyboard shortcuts
| Action | Shortcut |
|---|---|
| Show / hide LogAgent | Alt+Ctrl+P (default, configurable) |
| Skip current break | Esc |
| Postpone break by 5 minutes | Space |
Shortcuts can be customized in Settings.
Troubleshooting
Tracking isn't recording
Check that accessibility/screen permissions are granted and that the app isn't on your ignored-apps list.
Camera not working
Confirm camera permission is granted and no other app holds the device; the camera only runs while the window is focused.
High CPU or battery use
Lower the camera background FPS or turn off camera health features; activity tracking itself is lightweight.
